Today we mourn the passing of “Soul Train” host Don Cornelius. His smooth baritone seduced millions for years while celebrating black music and its artists. He bestowed “love, peace and SOUL!” upon so many of us; it is so unfortunate that such happiness had escaped his grasp in recent years. Plagued with marital issues and ill-health, Don was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot on Wednesday, February 1. Cornelius was 75.
Aretha Franklin called him “an American treasure.”
“God bless him for the solid, good and wholesome foundation he provided for young...

Well this past Saturday night was the first Tambor Party of 2012 over at 595 North Ave . And Stan Zeff started the new year off with a bang , by having legendary Dj , producer Timmy Regisford as this months special guest . I got there a little later than normal so, I missed Stan Zeff and Dj BE’s set . So when I got there Timmy was already on and getting the crowd worked up playing his infectious blends. On a side note we also celebrated the birthday’s of Atlanta’s House music supporters , Rodney Williams, Brian Scarlet, and Pebbles Williams . It was great party and great warm...

Spoken word. It is the lyrical, intelligent consciousness of the creative soul. Its communal and artistic and its beauty is in its depth. Black on Black Rhyme is a collection of Poets & Artists who perform and share poetry for love, healing, enlightenment, education & entertainment. Originally born in Tallahassee, FL, the group has expanded to Tampa and Atlanta and it was the Atlanta troupe that first encountered the Garden. Verse and passion and collective creativity would all come together for an evening of enjoyment and insight. A few of those nights were captured in the Garden.

We did a couple of Pangea’s Meet & Greets last year and they were geared towards a few of us getting to know each other better with the hopes and intentions of creating works together. I don’t think I say it enough but Pangea’s Garden is not an online magazine whose focus is a single perspective of the Afrosensual Aesthetic. It is a network of individuals with an appreciation for afrosensual culture and beauty with our varying perspectives on how to celebrate that.
When I started it, it was a blog on blogspot where I thought I would change the world with my individual perspective...

In Africa, dance is much more than physical movement – it is a direct way to celebrate life and create healing. African Healing Dance is a step-by-step course on the healing tradition and expressive movements that are unique to Africa’s dance heritage. From the movements of nature and everyday life, the tribal people of Africa developed specific dances to summon the energy of the world around them into their bodies for connection and healing. Through dancing, they became the bird and the wind, the fire and the serpent.
Wyoma, the lead dancer and director of the Damballa dance troupe,...

BlackGirlsKillingIt (BGKI) is the brainchild of Neil Alvin. Its an extraordinary Tumblr blog featuring images of well-dressed, impeccably-styled black women. Periodically, BGKI features an interview with a sista whose personal style is unique and fabulous. In this post, BGKI interviews Folake Kuye Huntoon, editor of StylePantry.com, the “fashion and lifestyle stockiest.”
How would you define your personal style?
I’d say it’s Three’s company meets Woodstock meets Today’s fashion!
Do you find that you follow fashion trends, or do you play by your own rules?
I have always played...

From The Trove on Henry Adebonojo:
With the same great love for capturing the moment through the moving image as for distilling the essence in a single frame, cinematographer/ photographer Henry Adebonojo is “happiest when I am making pictures.”…
Shooting the likes of the late Gordon Parks, (for his Emmy-nominated work on Half Past Autumn: The Life and Works of Gordon Parks) George Clooney, Chuck D, Marisa Tomei, Dave Chappelle and the POTUS, Barack Obama, he’s cut a wide swath across the mediums of music videos, commercials, promos, documentaries and short films. The one position...

This is a 12 month calendar featuring a collection of fine art collaborations between myself and a variety of amazing photographers.
All of the images are raw. No touch ups. I seek to bring the wisdom of the Dark Moon Goddess, the Sun Goddess, Bee Priestesses, and all of the Powerful Amazons who come before me. I walk with the power of my ancestors. It’s all about being true and free. Nothing else matters at the end of the day.
Featured Photographers: Jan – Ondre Hunt, Philly Feb – Ron Ceasar, Washington, DC/Baltimore March – Andy C. and Irina Sarnetskaya,...
