It seemed like the perfect opportunity to practice their dance and not be distracted by onlookers and I thought it was the perfect chance to get the two of them together for the shoot we’d talked about doing. They had never danced or shot together before and we were all a little unsure about what we would create. But, you know, that is the exploration…that is the adventure.
They stepped into the dance studio. Stretched and loosened up. Connected. And proceeded to create. Both of these beautiful...

I AM my hair. I am my naps. I am my African wooly hair. I am every African woman who was beaten and told that she had to cover her hair or lose her life. I AM every slave woman who loved her nappy hair and who had to see white women and mulatto slaves get preferential treatment for having straight hair. I will NEVER as long as I live let straight hair define my beauty.
If you ever watch that show “Yo Mama” on MTV, every show, they crack on someone for having nappy hair and everyone in the audience rolls with laughter. Anyone who finds nappy headed momma...

Hershey is a young, vibrant and natural EarthSista on the move with a serious passion for dance and theater.
Her affinity for perfomance grew out of her love for fashion and glamour and she stills dreams of owning a her own fashion boutique as well as a performance studio. Look out for her daring and provocative image set featuring her on the Project online community site PangeasGarden.com. In the meantime we asked her to answer a few questions about herself.
1. How would you describe your personality/outlook on life?
I’m pretty bubbly and talkative most of the time, while also having a...

Tomorrow, Saturday, Sept 5 at 8 pm…
Join in a celebration of two artists, “Remember Peace, Remember Pleasure” features the photography of Saddi Khali and the music of Nakia Henry at the Casa Freia Gallery in New York
Designed to incite the senses, the evening features both photography and music. For the eyes, a photo exhibit will challenge dominant standards of beauty. For the ears, a CD release and performance will reshape the limits of song.
The Casa Frela Gallery is hosting an opening reception for the artist on Saturday September 5th, 2009, 8pm to midnight

Beautiful Nadine is from my homeland Jamaica. I allowed nature to crown her and turn her into a queen here.
And then I gave her a real crown to spice it up.
You can find some of my paintings on my website and some more photography here.

These are captures of Bintou, a model of Senegalese descent from Brooklyn. Dallas J. Logan was the photography of the striking images. He’s worked with a DSLR for about 2 1/2 years and in that short time he’s done magazine editorials, two clothing line campaigns, two skin care campaigns and an underwear line… He “now teach others the little bit I know.”
In those two years I guess he has learned the technical aspects of photography but the creative artistry portrayed in his works belies that relatively short period of study. And his vision is clear in both his...
