Jirard:
I’ve been shooting a nude series for a little over 5 years & I want to to publish a collection of coffeetable books derived from the work. My “Velvet Painting Series” is designed to be beautifully arousing… celebrating the sexual potency and freedom of wonderfully diverse women. “The Velvet Painting” started as one book… but has evolved into a series of books.
After submitting my books to some art book publishers, I was told that they were unable to find a place for these types of projects in their book schedule. And the closing of many bookstores...

Some weeks back we featured another story from Vogue Italia; it’s Tribute to Black Beauties. Featuring the photographic works of Ellen von Unwerth, it was modern, irreverent look at the beauty and glamour of fashion’s black models. Its tongue-in-cheek humor and appeal was upbeat and adorable. However, a few months before, Vogue Italia featured the works of Emma Summerton. This feature was called Black Allure and it was opposite of Tribute. It was 1920s vintage, elegant, moody and very high class.
From the article in Vogue Italia: The black allure photographed by Emma Summerton...

Collective inspiration… the sum is far greater than the individual contributions.
“I am not going to say much here; the creators of this collection have their own statements. I will say that these images are the culmination of Chi-town artists inspired by an earthSista as their muse. The collective experience is, at times, humorous and tense and always real as they all come together to make it happen. Artist and filmmaker Paul Branton, Photographer Tracy Lynn Deis and earthSista Queen Hadassah Esther share a colorful experience with the rest of us….”

Hey, Lotus. I think my twists could use some tightenin’ up. Can you hook me up?
Yeah, Masai. But not here, in the other room. You feel me?
Yeah… I feel you…
Early in the morning, in that room (you know… the one in the back where all of the stuff you don’t throw away is put because you don’t know what to do with it) earthSista Lotus began to carefully twist the strands of hair of the new earthBrotha Masai. The dawning sun pierced the blinds of the windows that had no curtains painting streaks of lights on the couch, the couple and collection of drawings and sketches...

Honestly, is that proverb really true?
The Baobab tree truly is a source of inspiration. Its generous spirit and life-giving properties has been renowned in stories told for centuries. The Baobab is one of the longest living trees in the world. Native to the dry plains of Central Africa, where its considered by many to be the dwelling place of departed spirits, the baobab has been used as a source of water by some and a home by others.
Looking like trees that have been planted upside down these uniquely iconic symbols of long life inspired earthSista MoEss and artists Maurice Evans and Grace...

My artwork takes a critical view of cultural, political and erotic perspectives. In my work, I reconstruct the American dream and fantasy images that are part of our childhood and adult culture. Having engaged subjects as diverse as black women’s rights, spirituality, African-American liberation and African culture, my work reproduces familiar visual signs, arranging them into new conceptually layered pieces.
Often times these themes are combined into visual feminine elements that feature surreal and abstract backgrounds, juxtaposed with symbolic spiritual images, and often embellished with...

I am part of group of Photographers and Models who get together, every now and then, for some casual shooting. And last week we went on a lakeside stroll. I got a few great shots and I will probably post them later but right now I want to focus on the captures of Hafees Byard.
