pgp009: A Darker Side of the Garden…

It was an exploration for me. A curiosity if you will. I wanted to do a set of captures from a darker perspective. Something bleak and struggling. Not necessarily beautiful but still emotional and passionate. Captures that were intense and, hopefully, told a story. What struck me more was that Sista Khadeshia was down for this, somewhat radical, idea on my part. She pulls out the make-up and the wardrobe and we did the damn thing. A damsel in distress. Check it out. Do you follow it? Is it too harsh or unflattering? Or do you really get the point? Let me know what you think. Bookmark...

pgp008: Headshots…locs & ideas…

As I’ve worked on my images, I have been tossing around the idea of building a portal for the images and the influences…something that reflects the beauty and sensuality of the aesthetic and the cultural influences that it affects and that, in turn, affect it. It would be a place for forums, maybe some interviews, beautiful photos and art. It could feature gear and products that are important to the look. I’ve talked to a few friends who are excited about what we could do with it. Some want to really push the envelope a bit more on the images and I have to admit I am interested...

pgp006: nobella of new orleans…

I met her on my birthday a few years ago…smiling & sassy. She’s a youngun’ who never took me seriously but she could tell me stories, just about her life, that inspired me to create new myths and art of my own. Talented in her own right she’s always been great muse. She creative (always making things) and she loves life. I am always uplifted when I’m around her. I wanted to capture her surrounded by her creations and I asked her to say something about herself and work. Took her FOREVER. And then she sent me this… “I am Patricia Nobella of New...

pgp004: it started on a night at the cafe…

It was Monday and I was already beat down. It was a long workday, after a very taxing weekend and I was soooo sleepy, not tired, just sleepy. My favorite joint was the Apache Cafe & Lounge on Art Monday nights. Harking back to the days of the beatnik era, the Apache Cafe, basically, is one of those joints where creatives of all types hang out in a eclectic, funky atmosphere. Poets, painters, musicians, singers, DJs, dancers, photographers and film makers all have a place here along with patrons, entourage and students. It seemed like each night of the week focused on a different art form....

pgp002: Empress Fiyah, the gracious amazon

Nobody’s smarter because nobody’s mind works as hard… You might not see that right off. Right off, what you see is a the dredloc amazon beauty who’s effervescence, charisma and pride all own the room that she walks in. She is pure grace that moves like the awkward queen. She can’t help but to be a muse to any creative she meets. And then this modest diva of anAtlanta underground Caribbean radio station has the nerve to talk and share her brilliant intelligence and broad awareness with you. Always fair and humble with no ‘tude, she keeps you on your toes. You...

pgp001: A conversation about hair…

“You really think brothas are intimidated by your locs and that’s the reason they don’t step to you?” “Yes, Vincent. I am sure of it.” That was the beginning of a polite conversation that, for me, led to an exploration. I was on this thing called a date; something that I don’t see a lot of folks doing anymore and kids don’t appear to be doing at all. I was with a beautiful and intelligent dark-skinned sister with dreadlocs. As was typical between us, she was impeccably dressed and perfectly accented while I did my best to not make her look bad. She’s...
