Sunday night in the Garden… prelude to Apache

When we speak of “the culture that cultivates an afrosensual aesthetic” do you know what we mean? As we go into the new week, the cultivators on the Garden feel the need to share more of the culture of the Garden. For example, we will showcase several efforts in the world of entertainment. Lena Waithe, one of the creative geniuses of Dear White People (which we intend to feature later), shares an effort she worked on with Flavor Unit Productions called TWENTIES, an insightfully irreverent comedy about three black women in their twenties. One of the show’s producers is Queen Latifah. We...

YEME… on the seventh floor

Concrete mountains with soulless glass eyes bore witness to earthSista YEME‘s afrosensual display. On a Sunday afternoon in downtown Atlanta, the young princess toured a seventh floor condo that was stylishly furnished in an urban mix of modern and afrocentric elements. Huge widows allowed the sun to silhouette her figure. She lounged around the space as shecreated inspired poses for capture. YEME was bold, creative, unabashed and truly liberated. Her moves were almost effortless. The earthSista made being beautiful look so easy. And the nubile nymph was as comfortable in her skin in this...

Violet… red by the window interlude

Sunlight streamed thru the sheer, laced fabric and horizontal blinds that covered the window. earthSista Violet’s lean, curvy figure drank all of it in. She teased it and danced with while I captured the images. This wasn’t the shoot. This was that moment between shoots and the light… the light always loved Violet. Simply adorned in a red body jewel by Nobella, the natural diva smiled and swayed her hips and allowed the natural light to embrace her. I patiently awaited the cues, studying her form and attitude and humbly tried to create images worth remember. It was just a moment...

pgp335: earthSista Sekhmet…by the blinds…

A look back at an earthSista on a path of self-discovery. In between a couple of shoots I caught her glimpsing out the window, unabashed, lost in a moment of thought. Inspired, I grabbed a few captures; it’s like that sometimes. Since these images were initially created this young sista had grown a lot and had a few misadventures. She’s led her own group of club kids on what started out as a mission but turned into a series parties. She went from being an earthSista to an earthMama. And she’s changed her name. Initially she was BelaMenina, reveling in the persona of an exotic...

Chadoe… the green wall interlude

Reflected light shimmered across earthSista Chadoe‘s beautiful dark skin casting dramatic shadows against the green wood of the long abandoned country club for an old overgrown, forgotten golf course. The location sat next to the beautiful lake where the young goddess had posed for her images for Pangea’s Nature Stroll Series. After that photoshoot we decided to check out the surroundings and found this testament to man’s crumbling foundations giving way to Mother Nature reclaiming her own. The sun, high in the sky, was to the back of the green wall and this momentary interlude...

Sindel… earthSista in studio raw

Moments impulsive and raw. No glamour or drama either. Just the real. And that was Sindel. She is edgy and quick to say that she is not the typical afrocentric earthSista. Loud, vulgar (in a very good way), gritty and offbeat. She is an Urbanista for sure. There is this ‘emo’ edge about her. And she is quick to tell you how bleak the world is, and how grim she feels because she is ‘disgusted with people.’ And while she does actually feel that, the bleakness just doesn’t hold up. Her spirit is too strong and its as if it cradles her hopes… waiting for the opportunity...

pgp327: an earthMama’s day…

“The moment a child is born, the mother is also born. She never existed before. The woman existed, but the mother, never. A mother is something absolutely new.” –Rajneesh We take a moment, to look back. When earthSista Hershey was on her path to become earthMama Henna. A moment of captures by earthSista NikkiVonNu. Pangea’s Garden continues to grow. We are actively striving to be your Afrosensual nexus of ideas, images, commentary, participation and events that inspire, provoke, entertain...

pgp326: NAMBI… prelude to stroll

a momentary preview of a curious and sensuous stroll… look for earthSista Nambi to make her debut… soon! Pangea’s Garden continues to grow. We are actively striving to be your Afrosensual nexus of ideas, images, commentary, participation and events that inspire, provoke, entertain and actively engage you. Nubién’s Q&A…

“I don’t know about tomorrow because God is Today.” – earthSista Nubién Open and free-spirted, Nubién is sassy, feisty and playful in front of the camera and she is not much different when she is up-close and personal. Nubién is that upbeat, uniquely determined Urbanista who ‘loves life despite all the obstacles that come her way.’ She will tell you without hesitation that she has no time for those who have no time for her and as you get to know her you quickly realize that she is simply a woman seeking to have and share happiness. The young student’s heart...

FlowerChild… beauty by the lake

Typically, earthSista FlowerChild is joined by earthSista GreenRose in her sets for the Garden but on one occasion she decided to stroll alone. It was a sunny day, with a bright blue sky decorated with puffy clouds; perfect for creating images for Pangea’s Nature Stroll Series. Typically, she is playful to the point of goofiness but on this day there was something different that stood out about her. She started out quite whimsical but as the walk progressed she became pensive as well as a bit sultry. There is a bit of mystery behind her eyes and that became more evident as we created captures....

pgp321: Afrosensual Cheesecake with NikkiVonNu

Spring is the season change and rebirth. In that spirit of metamorphosis and growth earthSista Nfinite has blossomed into earthSista NikkiVonNu. And Nikki’s afrosensual self-portrait is that of a pin-up girl. “My photos reveal a love for pin up inspired looks as well as images that showcase Afrocentric beauty. I reside in a place that is the intersection between classy, sexy, and natural.” -earthSista NikkiVonNu A photographer in her own right, NikkiVonNu was somewhat discerning when it came to finding a photographer to fulfill the second part of her UdoU project. When she...

RaeOfLite… glamour in the sun

Sunlight finds RaeOfLite. When she would turn or move, you would think that the sun turned and moved with her. The earthbound sista who is always down for the cause is a guiding light of inspiration. RaeOfLite is a muse and its evident on the day she pensively poses on the wood rails of a gazebo looking over a lake whose very presence is designed to be hidden from roaming eyes. And as thirty-foot tall trees reached for the sky, RaeOfLite’s eyes would follow their thrust to the heavens; that is when she was not looking into the camera. When she peers into the lens she portrays the glamour...

Sunset… smiles on the stone…

Sunset has that bubbly, jazzy personality that feels like a polite roller coaster ride. She has a thoughtful irreverence about her that is intelligent and fun and melancholy all at the same time. The day of the shoot was warm with a slight breeze bouncing off the stone of Arabia Mountain in Georgia, just outside of Atlanta. The writer/artist model has contributed often to the Garden, as the Music Editor for The Pangea’s Garden Project she is the voice of Sunset’s Soundcheck. But on this day all of that is not even a consideration. It is simply a moment of playful dalliances on the stone,...

earthSistas…serenity unveiled in black & white

Crystal clear waters reflecting beautiful skies filled with swiftly moving puffy clouds… this was the backdrop for the beautiful women who have all taken part in this extraordinary rich series of images that are still never ending. Momentary strolls that were reflective, imaginative, provocative and creative led to some revealing moments in which beauty both inside and out was exposed. And, from what I see, with this exposure… through this unveiling… there is a serenity. There is a euphoric communion with nature that is liberating. And whether she’s a country girl or urbanista,...

KireiNa & Nia… stone, sky and natural glamour

Spontaneous… informally experimental… inspired. It started with a simple request to create some captures of KireiNa’s new hairstyle at the time. It was a beautiful day so we decided to take full advantage by shooting the images at Arabia_Mountain, a knob hill that rests in the outskirts of metro Atlanta. KireiNa’s hair stylist, Nia, was proud of her work and wanted to create a few captures of her own so she met us out there as well. The day was pleasant, cloudy with a polite breeze, and as it progress the clouds became puffy and parted a little to show a bit of blue sky....
