Playfully exuberant, earthSista MoreEssence (MoEss for short) gleefully marveled at the exquisite hand-crafted artistry of Moebanga bangles. MoEss started this photo shoot in her favorite HarvestGirl design. And as the late morning sun bounced brightly off the white Egyptian cotton sheets, she laughed and smiled in awe of the creative variety that artist-photographer-cinematographer (an all-around creative) Maurice Evans had spawned. MoEss was sassy, provocative and beguiling. She was also delightfully mischievous and frankly lighthearted; a true free-spirit. When we created these images, I was...

Honestly, is that proverb really true?
The Baobab tree truly is a source of inspiration. Its generous spirit and life-giving properties has been renowned in stories told for centuries. The Baobab is one of the longest living trees in the world. Native to the dry plains of Central Africa, where its considered by many to be the dwelling place of departed spirits, the baobab has been used as a source of water by some and a home by others.
Looking like trees that have been planted upside down these uniquely iconic symbols of long life inspired earthSista MoEss and artists Maurice Evans and Grace...

As we gear up for a night of Afrosensual creativity and celebration, take a moment to look back at the last week’s festivities as the earthSistas of For Real Tho! hang out at the Creative Culture Collective’s Open Mic Friday. Its a momentary improvisational free-for-all as we all get caught up in the music and the verse of the performers. Nefertiti is in the background too on the mic and playing her guitar. It raucous and funny and hard to hear as everybody steps up to bring you the fun. Neferititi and Rainbow Soul drop their “For Real Tho!s”

StarClark
a gifted young voice that makes the mind wander, “How do she know about that”?
Well, it’s easy to get it confused by her age but don’t second guess her insight. The Point of View for her verse and prose is merely an outlook of an “On the Other Hand” perspective, providing us with a deeper and poetic interpretation on the reality of the situation.
StarClark is a “Real Life”, “Straight Talk” young poet that writes about the things she has experienced. The young poetess is on a journey of creative self-exploration through prose and verse...

It dances…
Elusively… mysteriously… seductively…
Smoke.
It calls you. Coyly it teases you.
It offers the promises of bliss… of peace…

The earthSistas have a come a long way…
What started as an audio-only talk show with three Original Queens irreverently keeping real, has grown into a weekly online video show that continues to find the humor in the absurdity of reality. And with the humor they bring the cultural depth that continues to take this show to a whole other level. They make it alll seem so effortless. The show’s spontaneous and and organic presentation is uplifting and so natural. Yet behind the scenes, Moess, SHE and BlaqButtahphly work feverishly to bring this whole performance together. Methodical and...

So much is happening in Pangea’ Garden right now, that I have to be honest and say that I am having a hard time keeping up and sharing it all with you.

“When you live your life with an appreciation of coincidences and their meanings, you connect with the underlying field of infinite possibilities.”
Deepak Chopra
That thought fits today. About a week ago, we were all having our weekly Pangea earthSista meeting. And the typical chaos ensued where we there is approx. a dozen men & women having about six ongoing conversations at any given time. It seems very disorganized from the outside looking in but its not. It organic and distracted, sometimes straying away from the path our communal vision, yet always making our way back. The...

I have a series of paintings called the “Water Bearers”. These paintings were inspired by African women. One day, I was looking through my bedroom window and notice two African women dressed in traditional clothing. They were carrying loads of clothes on top of their heads. With their hips swaying from side to side, I watched as they balanced with perfection these heavy loads. Even with all the weight on top of their heads they still managed to look regal, beautiful, and graceful as they walked and talked to each other heading to their destination …. which was obviously...
