pgp:185 ISIS Rising

A stroll through nature… Its a moment of sun and wind and clouds next to the lakeside. We were talking and creating images. We conversed about a lot of things. We talked about hair; she styles natural hair beautifully. Talked a little about aspirations. The young sista dreams of publishing a natural hair magazine; I suggested that she blog about it here. And suddenly, in a moment of clarity, the sista formally known as Antiquity Lashay imparts a revelation. She takes on the alias of ISIS. ISIS, the Egyptian goddess of rebirth remains one of the most familiar images of empowered and utter...

Saturday in the Park…

The Malcolm X Festival was a great day in the park. And for me, what’s interesting are the things that stand out to you. There were no video games; no Gameboys, no PSPs or Nintendo DSIs either. In the backdrop of nature and color and music and dance and culture, I am enriched. Culturally and spiritually, I was moved. I was satiated as I took it all in. I wish I could say more but, honestly, words fail me. The day took me back. It was reminiscent of events I would attend more than a dozen years ago when such creative arousal was brand new to me. Saturday fired up my imagination and seeded...

pgp181: The Artistic Vision of BAC…

entry by Vincent When I first met Brian A. Childress, my initial impression was that of a pragmatic, technically astute Photographer. I had not noticed his artistic sensibility; not yet. He and I, along with a few other Photographers and Models would all get together and rent a studio. In my early days of professional shooting, it was an opportunity  to hone my craft through the sharing and learning of techniques with others. The more we shot together, the more impressed I became with the images Brian created; images, not “captures.” He doesn’t like it when I call them “captures.”...

pgp159: Vincent’s visions of a Lakeside Stroll…

Recently I posted Hafees Byard’s images of an early morning stroll with ButtahFly and Hershey along a lakeside in Georgia. I was there shooting too and I thought I take a moment and share some of my captures as well. The morning was a glorious miracle that reminded me what tend to take for granted, assuming it will be there tomorrow. I hope these images reflect how much I revel in the Grace bestowed upon us. And I look forward to doing it again. As an EarthSista, Hershey has made her presence felt in the Garden and ButtahFly is well on her way of doing the same. I hope you like the...

Radiantz…peeling back the layers

Immortal Wisdom from Bob Marley “I do not try to be perfect and I know I’m far from it but before you go pointing fingers make sure your hands are clean” Walking and talking, you find out that Radiantz is a woman whose had her fair share of passion and pain. A talented and caring soul, she is not hard to know but not easy either. In the midst of the shoot, Radiantz opens up and as the day progresses the prickly young woman who can be short-tempered, becomes warm, exuberant and sharing. She talks about the changes in her life. Family, boyfriends and her history tell a story of a life...

pgp142: Hafees’ Lakeside Stroll…

I am part of group of Photographers and Models who get together, every now and then, for some casual shooting. And last week we went on a lakeside stroll. I got a few great shots and I will probably post them later but right now I want to focus on the captures of Hafees Byard. Born in South Philly, now residing in Atlanta, Hafees discovered his true passion for photography a few years ago. He says he loves to capture images of life and turn them into art. You can see a wider variety of his works here and here. Enjoy! -Vincent

pgp139: Cold as Ice!

It was 30 degrees outside when I took these pictures. My model, Aiesha, didn’t seem to be bothered at all! I was freezing! Check out some of my paintings on my website and some more photography here. -Tamara Natalie Madden

Beauty…moments in the sun…

Overcast clouds were the forecast, and it was unexpected. As luck would have it, the weather for the week prior to shoot day had been nothing but sunshine. We had this great idea for a shoot but it required a strong burst of natural sunlight, similar to the day before, and the days before that and so on… Anyway, we decided to make the best of it. We shot outside, taking advantage of the even sunlighting you can get when the sun hides behind the clouds. We wanted to use the lush untamed backyard to this Carribean-themed jukejoint when it happened. God smiled on us that day. The clouds parted,allowing...
