Mara Hoffman’s 2012 Resort Swimsuit Lookbook features Sudanese model, Nykhor Paul. Mara bohemian style is deeply influenced by different cultures. For this campaign in particular she tapped into the beautiful caribbean habitat of Cuba. Mara always includes elements from his travels, this year the Egyptian mystical culture & Mexico we’re part of it, and off course as always Tribal is one of the main source for her inspirations. The designer’s idea behind the shoot “something rich with ceremony and sexy yin witchery, pulling references from Cuban and Caribbean environments.” The press release of the collection mentions the strong connection with the Egyptian emperors. Easily observed is Hoffman’s ability to meld unique hodgepodges of goodness together, but beneath lies so much more.
Hoffman’s 2012 S/S lookbook focuses predominantly on swimwear. The lookbook photography, shot by Olivia Malone, features model Nykhor Paul in an exotic, leafy green jungle setting. In some images, Nykhor, appears to be sunbathing, eyes closed, almost in a dream state, while in other photos, Nykhor is shown wearing a cheetah print bathing suit with straps drawing from the same inspiration as Hoffman’s traditional Mexico serape jacket. This season Mara Hoffman presents a really unique swim collection style with jewelry by All For The Mountain, and elaborately loose-fitting, draped cover-ups.
Over the last three years Sudanese model Nykhor Paul has had a meteoric rise. Since her debut in 2009 she’s walked countless New York runway shows. In addition, the sought-after model has landed plum campaign gigs for companies like Payless, Gilt Groupe and Diet Coke. Her achievements have been crowned – literally and figuratively – with this campaign: star of Mara Hoffman’s Resort 2012 Swim Collection’s lookbook. The shoot, which was front on center on Hoffman’s newly relaunched site, features Paul in lush tropical setting draped in a succession of luxe, color-rich swimsuits.
Mara Hoffman is a New York fashion designer whose line, Mara Hoffman, launched in 2000. Hoffman studied fashion design and graduated from Parsons School of Design in New York City and Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London. Mara Hoffman has evolved from collections featuring hand-dyed couture pieces to her current collections which concentrate heavily on original silk prints. Her line encompasses everything from swimwear to cashmere coats. Hoffman pulls her inspiration from nature, world travel and fantasy. Her work is shown on the runway during NY Fashion Week.
