The Community Aid and Development Corporation (CAD) is sponsoring the 21st Annual Malcolm X Festival along with the Atlanta Chapter of the Malcolm X Grassroots Movement. At the event, all activities, including speeches, solidarity statements, spiritual affirmations, and musical performances will relate to Malcolm’s message of Human Rights and Self-Determination. The purpose of the festival is to provide us an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the legacy of an international African icon by means of a cultural celebration which promotes unity while honoring diversity.

According to their website, CAD is a non profit corporation whose purpose is to assist disadvantaged, needy members of the community in social and educational development through tutorial and recreational programs. They are a Human Health and Welfare service agency with a presence in the Atlanta metropolitan area since 1989. Their national headquarters is in Decatur, Georgia and they have offices in Jackson, Mississippi, Birmingham, Alabama, Detroit, Michigan and Washington, DC.

Now, according to their website, the Malcolm X Grassroots Movement is an organization of Afrikans in America/New Afrikans whose mission is to defend the human rights of our people and promote self-determination in our community. We understand that the collective institutions of white-supremacy, patriarchy and capitalism have been at the root of our people’s oppression. The New Afrikans understand that without community control and without the power to determine our own lives, we will continue to fall victim to genocide. Therefore, they seek to heighten our consciousness about self-determination as a human right and a solution to our colonization. While organizing around our principles of unity, they are building a network of Black/New Afrikan activists and organizers committed to the protracted struggle for the liberation of the New Afrikan Nation – By Any Means Necessary!

The event will be held at West End Park – Atlanta, GA on May 22, 2010. The festivities begin at 12 noon and end at 8 pm and there is no admission fee. Parking is available on the streets only. There is no parking allowed on the park grounds.

There will be an Official Malcolm X Festival 2010 After Party at the The Impire on 556 Tift St. in Atlanta. Tickets are $5/advance and $10/door. Doors open at 10:00 pm.

The entire day should be an enlightening as well as entertaining experience. You can get more details on the event’s vendors, tax deductible sponsorships and performers on their website. I hope to see some of you there!
