“Its a journey to appreciate my people and our richness.”
The Dark Matter Project is Brian Siambi’s collaboration with his friend and stylist Bryan Emry and different African models, designers showcasing their unique fashion and documenting this through creative forms of editorial photography. He says it’s his exploration of rich beautiful dark skin through fashion. And while it started there, you’ll see when you go to his website or his Tumblr blog (YES, Tumblr is still around) that it evolves to include concepts that have carry political undertones that are intended to be provocative. In the future we will visit with Brian on that evolution. In the meantime, we share a collection of images that focus on the core mission of the project. Various designers and models participated in the collaboration for these images. Designer, Katungulu Mwendwa and models Lamic Kirabo & Lee Itumbe were some of the collaborators in this collection along with stylist, Eve Mungwe.

Born and raised in Nairobi Kenya Brian Siambi’s love for the arts started at a young age through illustrations learning from his uncle. He grew up to become a graphic designer and while working for a Kenyan top women’s magazine True Love Magazine East Africa, Brian developed an interest in fashion photography. Since then, his work has focused on capturing images of fashion and travel in their natural element. His creations reflect an affinity for natural light and shadows and the complementary play that have on his subjects.
