What would happen if Will Smith made The Fresh Prince today? Bel-Air, a story of a kid from Philly whose life got turned upside-down… in 2019.
Morgan Cooper had to take it there. Working with Sun Squared Media, the up-and-coming director/cinematographer, inspired by one of the most beloved sitcoms of the ‘90s, reimagined The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air as cinematic drama in this fan-made film trailer. “Like most 90’s kids, I grew up watching Fresh Prince,” Cooper tweeted. “Even as a kid, I always thought there was more to the story… so I decided to make this.”
The trailer featured Jerry Madison as Will Smith, Sherri Roulette-Mosley as his mother, Vy Smith and Rufus Burns as Jazz. Uncle Phil is played by Granvile O’Neal, Aunt Viv by Kira Ashby, Carlton by Jelani Talib, Hillary by Sada K. and Ashley by Khrystal Coppage. Will’s love interest, Lisa, is played by Jada Paige. There is more than a dozen supporting cast in front of the camera, along with more two dozen crew members and a post production team. All of them came together to produce a high quality work that also features the song Déjà Vu Ft. TYus by Easy McCoy. The trailer also features music by Utah and Beleaf. Additional music was composed by B. Jones, Mark Francis , Duncan Burnett who appear courtesy of Middleburn Music Group.
The labor of love is an extraordinary production of an incredible team. “There were over 100 people both in front and behind the camera that were apart of this project.” Cooper went on to say.
At nearly a million views, the viral praise for Cooper’s vision may lead to a studio opting to turn it into feature film.
